Solving Community Problems with Technology and Data.
As part of our community innovation and youth empowerment outreach, we delivered a session titled “Solving Community Problems with Technology and Data.” The outreach focused on helping participants understand how everyday community challenges can be addressed using simple technology, data, and collaborative thinking. The session was facilitated using a PowerPoint presentation designed to make problem-solving concepts practical, relatable, and accessible.
About the Outreach Session
The outreach session guided participants through the process of identifying real community problems and exploring how data and technology can support effective solutions. Using the PowerPoint slides, facilitators explained that community issues—such as poor access to services, environmental concerns, traffic challenges, and information gaps—can be better understood when approached systematically.
The presentation covered:
What community problems are and how they affect daily life
Why data is important for understanding the size and impact of problems
How simple technologies like mobile tools, digital forms, and maps can support solutions
The role of machine learning in supporting decisions and planning
Steps for moving from identifying a problem to testing practical solutions
The importance of collaboration among youth, community members, and local leaders
The session emphasized starting small, thinking locally, and using technology responsibly.
Why This Outreach Matters
Many communities face persistent challenges not because solutions are impossible, but because problems are not clearly understood or approached strategically. This outreach helps participants develop a mindset that values evidence, collaboration, and practical action.
By introducing data-driven and technology-supported problem solving, the outreach:
Encourages critical thinking and innovation
Empowers youth and community members to take initiative
Promotes responsible and ethical use of technology
Supports locally relevant and sustainable solutions
Building these skills at the community level strengthens collective capacity to create meaningful change.
