As part of our outreach and education initiatives, we delivered a session titled “Ethical and Responsible Artificial Intelligence.” The outreach aimed to help students, NYSC members, and community participants understand how artificial intelligence (AI) affects people and society, and why ethical considerations are essential when using modern technologies. The session was delivered using a PowerPoint presentation designed to explain complex ideas in a simple and relatable way.
About the Outreach Session
The outreach session introduced participants to the basics of artificial intelligence and its growing presence in everyday life. Using the PowerPoint presentation, facilitators explained what AI is, where it is commonly used, and how it supports human decision-making.
Key areas covered during the session included:
Simple explanations of artificial intelligence and real-life examples
How AI systems can impact jobs, access to services, and personal data
Core principles of ethical AI such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and privacy
Risks associated with unethical use of AI, including bias and misuse of data
The shared responsibility of developers, organizations, policymakers, and users
The presentation encouraged discussion and reflection, helping participants connect technology concepts to real-world situations.
Why This Outreach Matters
As AI systems become more widely used, their decisions increasingly affect real people and communities. Without ethical awareness, technology can unintentionally cause harm or deepen existing inequalities. This outreach helps participants understand that ethical thinking must guide innovation.
By raising awareness of responsible AI use, the outreach:
Promotes fairness and inclusion in technology
Encourages respect for privacy and human dignity
Builds trust in digital systems
Empowers young people to become responsible innovators and users of technology
Educating communities on ethical AI is an important step toward building a more just and sustainable digital future.
